Hierba buena (spearmint)
Mentha spicata
The 'good herb' โ a milder mint than peppermint, ubiquitous in Mexican, Cuban, and Andean kitchens.
Traditional use
Steeped for stomachaches, mild headaches, and a quick lift after meals. The base herb of agua fresca and mojito.
How to prepare
Tear a small handful of fresh leaves (or 1 tsp dried) into a cup, pour just-boiled water, steep 4 minutes.
Safety notes
Very safe. Mint can worsen reflux for some โ switch to chamomile if so.
