The dried stigmas of the saffron crocus โ the most prized spice in the Persian pantry.
Traditional use
A few threads in rice, milk, or tea for mood and digestion. Saffron extracts have shown promise in small studies for mild low mood and PMS.
How to prepare
Grind 4โ6 threads with a pinch of sugar in a mortar, soak in 1 tbsp warm water for 10 minutes, then stir into rice or warm milk.
Safety notes
Avoid in pregnancy. Don't exceed roughly 100 mg/day of pure saffron โ large amounts are toxic.
