Trigonella foenum-graecum

Bitter golden seeds and tender leaves used in Persian stews and as a daily blood-sugar tonic.

Traditional use

Soaked seeds eaten in the morning for blood-sugar balance and digestion. Leaves cooked into ghormeh sabzi. Traditionally used to support breast milk supply.

How to prepare

Soak 1 tsp seeds overnight in water; drink the water and chew the seeds. Or stir 1/2 tsp ground seeds into yogurt.

Safety notes

Lowers blood sugar โ€” monitor if diabetic on medication. Avoid in pregnancy (except the leafy form in food).
